Reports for 2003
**Fishing reports are an important part of catching more fish. However, they should be read to help you understand what the fish are eating, when the fish are eating, and to learn what areas the fish are feeding in. They should not be read to try and figure out an exact set of boot prints for you to stand in, this won't help, it will only frustrate you, it's very rare that there will be a repeat of a past night's performance. That is why all are encouraged to post reports and are asked to just give a general location, not a specific spot.
November 2000
October was a strange month....good fishing...then
bad fishing. If this year is anything like last year, the best fishing is
still yet to come! Believe it or not, December and even January are my new
favorite months...more fish...bigger fish...and much less people chasing
after them! ;-) Good luck, check out
SurfTalk
for more details!
Striper Addict(s): D.J. Aanensen Fished in this cove with a couple of guys. Birds working but nothing
breaking the surface. Tried Popper, nothing. Put on the needlefish and
caught a few fish. Thinking I had the pattern, got real exited. I get a big
hit, set the hook and a LARGE come out of the water...lost it. Next
cast...thwack, you know that sound when your line snaps and you get all of
that extra distance on that lures last cast as it sails into the ocean! So I
retie, I have no more needlefish on me so I try Bombers/megabaits and
nothing. Just before dark I put on the Surface cruiser and just twitch it.
Caught and released 5 in about 30 minutes and missed another large as it
came completely out of the water but missed the lure. I was pretty pumped
finally seeing something bigger than 18 inches. Striper Addict(s): D.J. Aanensen Squat!!!! Striper Addict(s): D.J. Aanensen Alot of spearing being chased in this one pocket I fish. Only had an hour
to toss the plugs but landed 3 missed about 5 others. They were all in real
close in the suds in a foot of water. Nothing to brag about but action for
the hour I plugged. I'll probably be out in the AM before work to see the
sunrise and see if any LARGE are hanging around. Where are all of the bigger
boys? Striper Addict(s): Jim Breese Got out to the Hook and things looked great.west wind for casting, clams
all over the place and lots of birds looking like something had just
happened or was about to. 4 OZ. was just enough to let the current sweep
your bait across the front of you. After a 1/2 hour saw some concentrated
bird activity about 1 mile North so I moved. Birds were crashing the water
with a vengance, but saw no fish? The riddle was solved on my second cast
when the trebble on my Mega-Bait came back draped in CLAM SNOT. The birds
were feeding in the foam on clam snot. Didn't catch anything but met some
nice people so it was a good time. Good Luck Jim B
P.S. The place was loaded with INSANE SURFERS!!!!!!! Striper Addict(s): Jim Breese Not much to tell. Saw no baits,no fish,Did have a monster hit on the
dead-sticked clam pole. By the time I got to it The fish was gone. Nothing
on the artificials at all. I plan on hitting the Hook tommorrow Morn. Will
post a report on that outing also. Good Luck Jim B

Easily the worst Thanksgiving weekend in my entire fishing life. Charlie and I spent considerable effort on Wed, Friday, and Saturday nights. I landed a grand total of 3 shorts. Charlie landed a sundial. We didn't miss many bites, the fish were just absolutely missing. Strangest thing I ever saw.
Even in the nasty, frothy, blowing foamy water last night, nada.
The good thing? It can only get better than that! :D

Peanuts being rushed by small bass. I followed them for an hour and only got a few. 2 on plugs and one on the teaser. The bait was heading south FAST. Should be at IBSP by now. I had a long walk back to the car. Didn't realize how fast and far I followed them and of course was late for work. Sorry for the dig about the Maryland Keepers. A ton of birds still working about 1 mile off shore every AM from SH to Monmouth Beach.

two hours on either side of lo tide was very productive as was 1 hour on either side of high. 80% of fish caught on plugs(5.5" megabait, bomber, husky jerk...) good teaser was chartreuse over white. many bumps and dropped fish and there were at least a few fish at each spot i tried. the bait that i saw was peanuts spearing an sand eels.

Went out after work Thurs nite, nothing for the 1st hr or so till I climbed out on the rocks. Hit a nice fish that opened the teaser hook after acouple minutes fight. Still haven't got the drag setting down for braid arrrgggghhh! Then dropped three fish in a row 'cause I never checked the hooks after the big one. Reset teaser hook but action stopped so I moved north to another jetty where I caught fish and missed fish for an hour and a half. Caught my first double header, 24" on the teaser and a 23" on the plug. Left at 5am with fish still out there(had to sleep sometime)Last cast brought the 26" and I figured I'ld leave on a good note.

Had a number of hit and misses (I'm a little rusty). Landed bass on 5"? black mambo minnow. Had another good size fish hit it, but he shook off. Examined rig and saw that the front treble was gone and there was a perfect set of teeth marks scratched into the paint around where the ring/hook was attached. All hits were before sunrise. After sun-up birds were working heavily well out of casting reach - moving south.

I got out for the first time since last Thurs. AM. Started throwing the black Bomber, no results. Switched to yellow, got the first one. I got bit-off or cut off?,and lost everything, fish was there for 4 seconds than I'm reeling in limp line. In my hurry to get back in, I skip the teaser and tie right to the chrome-black bomber. I FOUND THE CURE FOR THE VAMPIRE STRIPERS!! I had one bump and caught the second BASS in full sunlight. It must have been the teaser turning them off for the past 2 weeks!!! Good Luck Jim B.

Nothing before dawn, then around 7:30, caught the fish on the teaser fished above sb jig as it was swinging across a nice hole. Did not see any bait all day until I stopped at a spot north of the s. fling area. There was a large school of bunker off the end of the jettie. I did not have my corkers with me, but a guy who did managed one small blue under the school of bait.

THERE BACK, Finally broke my two day skunk. Got to my spot just before first light and started throwing black bombers. I didn't see any bait or signs of BASS. Two casts after switching to soft yellow I missed my first strike, the BASS jumped on then off as I was lifting the plug from the suds inches from the rocks. The next two also hit within inches of the rocks, got those. Then a strange thing happened, I got a nice hit farther out and thought I had a LARGE! As I got it closer to the rocks I saw the fish was coming in tail first, head down. I never got to see if it was foul-hooked or just took the plug from the front because as I was climing down to it, it beat it's tail in a frenzy and got off. Good Luck Jim

Went out and made a half-hearted attempt this Morn. The sun was already up nice and high and the bay was still ripped up. It was more of a reconoiter mission than fishing, but since I was throwing plugs I guess it counts as a SKUNKING.Will try for real tommorow Morn. for real at 5:00 AM. It should be a lot calmer then. Good Luck Jim
