Reports for 2003

**Fishing reports are an important part of catching more fish. However, they should be read to help you understand what the fish are eating, when the fish are eating, and to learn what areas the fish are feeding in. They should not be read to try and figure out an exact set of boot prints for you to stand in, this won't help, it will only frustrate you, it's very rare that there will be a repeat of a past night's performance. That is why all are encouraged to post reports and are asked to just give a general location, not a specific spot.

March, 2000...this should be the beginning of the most spectacular season ever for many, many of you! It will be the real test for the effectiveness of this website in helping you catch more stripers...which is my sincerest of goals. We won't be telling you exactly where to go and which rock to stand on, we will be helping you understand the fish, water, bait, tackle, and situations that you will encounter...that will make you a better fisherman forever...sending you to some magic rock is not the answer, it would teach nothing. Bear in mind, some reports will be a little vague as to exactly where they occurred, but I ask that they are such...please don't lie but likewise, unless you don't mind a spot being overwhelmed with people, don't post the exact spot either....it would benefit no one to do so!  Tide, conditions, general location, bait...these are the important things in a fishing report, they are the tools you need.

Tim and I went on an exporatory mission to some of our favorite haunts, the wind was blowing pretty good, the shrimp were drifting and overall the conditions were pretty good, if you don't count the wind. Outgoing tide, about 10:00 PM managed to jiggle up one small unicorn. This is a good sign, the season is on so get out there.

We gave it a shot, fished a few different spots for an hour or so before sunrise. Everything looked good, there were some shrimp and sand worms drifting free...but no takers.

It won't be long now, the oceans up to over 44 degrees...the same point at which we clobbered the fish in January....I gotta beleive the back waters have to be around 50 degrees..the historic starting point!

This week my friends, it will start in earnest if all goes well!

Ran into Jim Freda of Shorecatch Guide service. He threw the long rod with out any luck. Nice guy, knows his stuff.
