Reports for 2003
**Fishing reports are an important part of catching more fish. However, they should be read to help you understand what the fish are eating, when the fish are eating, and to learn what areas the fish are feeding in. They should not be read to try and figure out an exact set of boot prints for you to stand in, this won't help, it will only frustrate you, it's very rare that there will be a repeat of a past night's performance. That is why all are encouraged to post reports and are asked to just give a general location, not a specific spot.
December 2000
November was bad...pretty bad. Thanksgiving weekend
was the worst I've ever seen locally, miserable. There were some good days
in November for the fellas that got out during the daylight, the night
fishing was mean. A few nights here and there you could put together decent
catches, but for the most part, it was as if the ocean had been stripped
bare. December started off as one of the coldest I can remember and the fish
moved through at a record speed. The remaining fish were safe from me, I'm
not going out in negative wind chills to chase the few fish that actually
made it Jersey this fall. Did I mention how bad November was? ;-) Good
luck, check out

Fished mainly around home at Barnegat Light but could only find one small fish which I actually never quite landed. Fished up and down the island Monday and couln"t buy a fish. Saw a huge flock of birds working a few miles off Loveladies on Sunday afternoon and also outside the inlet on the edge of the shoals. It was a little lumpy outside but there was one boat right in the middle of the melee..lucky guy!

Nothing in the dark on the needlefish. First light put on a popper and retrieved it SLOWLY. Got one about 24-25" in the suds. Had to go to work. As usual, the birds are still about 1 mile offshore.

Fished the wall a few hundred yards down from the bridge in SRI. Friday was fantabulous as numerous double headers were caught during high slack. Saturday was good, but just a pick, as inlet boat traffic stirred things up and participation was much higher. Big fleet chumming off the gas docks.

Beautiful night. Everything just seem to meld together. Live lined at first, had a small BASS ride a wave in while I brought him in. Funny to see. Anyway. The BASS started smackin the bunker, so I switched to the Artificial. It was pretty much non-stop for an hour or so. Between me and this guy next to me, we caught quite a few. He was using a Yozuri-s black and white, but the Mega-bait I was using seemed to produce the best of everyone there. No teaser. Others around us had teasers and they didn't seem to be working as well.

Took a ride down to the pocket at IBSP. The surf was looking good - I guess due to the North winds. Got to the spot at about 2:35. Noticed a leak in my waders at about 2:40. Caught the short at about 3:45. Launched a black, 16a bomber to Europe when my line snapped - 4:10. Lost feeling in my left big toe - 4:30. (Fingers soon followed.) Just glad to hook into something - even if it was a short. PS: Santa, if you are reading this, I want Neoprene waders, size 10.
