This is a great site. I am only 17 years old but am obsessed with striper fishing. I have been striper fishing for over 6 years now and every year gets better. It is great to see a site like this and learn more and talk to people that have the same interest as me. Again, great site. Jim

Jim, careful with that obsession....school...then work...then a nice woman...and then you can let the bug get ya bad! Till then, moderation young unicorn hunter, moderation! ;-)

I was just introduced to the site by Al, the Rod Prof. I didn't look at everything, but from what I have seen I'm sure I will be visiting often. Chesapeake bay fishing is what I enjoy most, and this time of year is the best.

John, welcome and give Al a thank you for me! Thill is trying to drag me down there, something about a big tunnel with fish around it? ;-)

Wow, neat website. I saw stripers online mentioned while viewing another website. You have some knowledgeable folks providing your site with very helpful info. Although I fish the west coast surf for stripers most of the info still applies. I've been surfcasting for over 40 years and making top water plugs for about 20. Fishing for stripers is a constant learning process and forums like this are a great way to expand one's "bag of tricks." ... thanks..... Pikie Mike

Mike, it's been a pleasure corresponding with you and I'm glad to have virtually met ya ;-) And BTW, those plugs are absolutely amazing, never seen anything like them! Two thumbs up and a handful of thanks for sending them!

I was introduced to your site by my brother-in-law, I believe that he uses the name Angler. I have been only been fishin casually for the last 25 years due to raising a large family (5) kids who are now married and on their own and now that I have retired I need to get back into the game more actively. I have a lot of catching up to do and I intend to use your site as a learning resource. I am interested in both spin and fly fishing. I do tie my own flies as well. I look forward to making some connections with people from my area. Thank you and I believe that I will use the name,"Stripped Gear" because it happened to me years ago by a large bluefish.

Ah, yes, Angler...as good an egg as they come! Thank him for me! Welcome, kick back, pull up a CC Canal rock and get comfy ;-)

Wow, Since moving away from ocean city NJ 13 years ago , its this time of the year that I miss the east coast the most. the fishing out here....especially in the surf , just can't compare. I look at the photo's on your site and just dream about the old days of throwing my cast net in the surf , live lining for big blues and weaks, and the dreaming days of walking the surf plugging for the all too rare striper back in 1981-1982. If you are contemplating fishing , get up and go! I wish I was there !!!! All the best, JP

JP, sorry to hear you had to leave the shore :-( But hey, now it gives ya something to think about, no, to dream about between trips back out here! ;-)

Tim, Carol stopped by the house to see Pat and I was so pleased to hear how well you are doing with your site. As you know, I am one of those Partyboat captains who only can sporadically catch a short. I really have grown to love the surf and there is nothing like catching a bass from the beach. I am still currently working as chef of Sallee Tee's Grille in the Channel Club Marina and there are some peanut bunkers there. I hope in the next week or two I can hook up with a few nice fish from their gas dock. I had weakies the other day and all is set for the bass run. Maybe the four of us (Carol, Pat, you and I can get together sometime. Well good luck and I will certainly spread the word of yur website. My son just joined "Shark River Surf Anglers." Maybe he can teach the old salt, me, a thing or three. Nicky K.

Greeting Nick, nice to hear from ya! There is nothing, as you note, like chasing the stripers on their home turf - The Suds! Boats work, rivers and bays are nice...but stick a LARGE in the suds and you'll see what it's all about! If you keep watching those peanuts while yer trying to work, you'll burn someone's dinner...and then you'll have lots more time to fish! ;-)

Site looks Great have an addition for definitions SNOB: " "

He who looks down his nose at those who use bait"

{i believe Al Mc Renolds used bait to catch the WORLD RECORD in atl. city

Barry, yup, that would be a SNOB. I'm guessing you fish only bait? ;-) And for the record, Al used a Rebel Wind Cheater to land the current all tackle world record striper in Atlantic City. I'm still wondering where you're getting this "bait hater" vibe, we've covered that subject about a billion times on SurfTalk. Anyway, thanks for writing!

Nice web site. But what about DE. for the fishing reports ect.?

Anthony, thanks for the compliment. I'd love to handle DE in the reports section...or on SurfTalk under the reports forum....all we need is for some DE guys to start putting reports there and others will follow. The main reason I didn't choose to make separate report forums is that is tends to separate the folks too much...too many forums to read is nothing more than a hassle. I promise that when the reports forum gets too busy or too split up, I'll separate the reports section into more areas. First, it'll probably be split north/south, then by state if necessary. Thanks for writing!

Great site. I belong to a great conservation club MSSA (Maryland Saltwater Sportsman Association) and we have changed the way the Md DNR acts towards recreational fishermen for the better I must say! Definitely get involved in fisheries management by joining any of the clubs like RFA ,CCA. etc. It definitely makes a difference! Who knows maybe our kids will look back to our involvement and thank us one day!

Dennis, welcome and thanks for the encouragement. Sadly, NJ takes it's queues from the charter/party boat fleet...the welfare of the fish isn't first and foremost, full coolers is. Someday, I hope this changes and have long encouraged folks to get involved in any way they can!

I have been a board member of the wwa since march of this year. it is a good site but lately it has drifted away from fishing info into a schoolyard fight among certain members. A friend told me about this site so here I am. I fish in the Chesapeake bay and have a weekend house on the eastern shore. I hope this site includes our bay and I can get some good info from it. I used to make between 6 and 8 trips to Hatteras a year to surf fish I miss it, especially the trips to Portsmouth Island.

Steve, with the help of other Chessie fishermen, we'd can make the big bay a regular part of what's covered here. As it stands, we got Thill...and he swears that's all we need to know about the bay! ;-)

So this far this site shows having a few rules of the road can make it enjoyable for the whole family. It is very important in today's world that the young learn from the old. If we set examples on the correct way to fish and teach fishing with ethics than we will have better fisherman and women to utilize the resource and all will benefit I welcome a friendly, honest opinion format that my grandchildren can participate in.

Angler, greetings my friend, since you found us you've become quite a source of excellent advice and discussion. Thank you.

Great site! I have been a fresh water fly-fisherman for the past 25 years and recently "saw the light" with regard to striper fishing following an awesome trip to Cape Cod in early June. I spend some time on Long Beach Island and have fished the South Jetty a few times and have fed a few a few flies to the local bluefish. I am definitely hooked on stripers - and other saltwater fly fishing as well - and want to learn more about it.

Jeff, then stop by again, I love to fly fish, it's my passion when it comes to all manners of fishing! There's many guys here who have loads of years in the salt with the long rod...even before it became popular! Also, it's always good to have the insight of another.

Have been checking out your web for a couple of months now and really enjoy all the info, chit chat, and excellent advice. You guys have become a regular. I work nights as a street paramedic so many times while u guys are beating the suds I'm beating the streets but living on LBI I share the same love of fishing and your web site keeps me informed better than any I have seen, It's 5am, finally a day off, and going to the beach to try for some fluke with a friend. Hope to have some fresh fish for dinner tonight. Keep up the excellent work. I'm sure I will be ordering some tackle in the near future and may even find time to do some live chat and offer some tips of my own. I'm 53 and been fishing, mostly Stripers, for for 48 of them. Sincerely, Don

Don, welcome! I have a great friend who's also a paramedic, my proverbial hat is off to all of you who are there for all of us when we can't help ourselves. Just last year was my first trip to LBI....might I add that I've been back over 20 times since then? ;-) Hope you and your buddy did a job on the fluke and filled up yer freezer. I ran into "Ed, J" on the beach one night and he told me of this site. I'm VERY new to surf fishing (Memorial Day, 2000 when I caught my first Striper = 27' slot fish).

They call it Fork-ed River. Why don't they call it Strip-ed Bass?

My wife (my best friend) has just become my fishing buddy!

Nice website. I'll be back...

Rob, Ed J is cool ;-) Thank him for us and if ya need anything, just lemme know! BTW, one of the guys in our club does call them Strip-ed Bass (pronounced stry-ped bass) Go figure...maybe he's got roots in Fork-ed River? ;-)

I understand you would like to catch a big bass from the surf, shore or jetty. Try fishing the mouth of a river on a moon tide full or new doesn't matter, preferably the last hour of the incoming or outgoing. Use a 7" Red and white Bomber cast up and across current keeping up with the flow on the retrieve. From my own experiences this is the deadliest lure I own. I have caught countless bass using this tech. my largest is 34lbs. many in the teens and twenties and five in the thirty pound class. Have fun and hold on!!! Maybe see you at The Narrow River some night, Dave

Dave, thanks for the tips...why don'tcha stop by SurfTalk and share some of that know how with the thousands of guys lookin' for it there? ;-) Always interesting to see new perspectives, especially of places I've never been yet...like the Narrow River!

Hey there fisherman....

This is a public service announcement regarding Tim's plan's for this Sunday, June 19'th (known to regular-non fishing-people as FATHERS DAY..)! He will be celebrating the holiday at his sister's home in Brick, NJ. If anyone wants to see him, please come here :) The festivities begin at 5pm and we are serving Steak and BBQ chicken on the grill, corn on the cob and several delicious desserts. He may be here for a while...

Signing off, Tim's favorite sister, Michelle

Yea, I didn't go fishing then....I waited till I got home and the wife went to sleep...then I went ;-)

Love the page you're doing a great job. I mostly fish Cape Cod and the CT coast. Have had real success on the Cape so far this spring. Bass River has been hot as well as the north coves.

Gary, I'm a Cape newby...but Charlie and I have hammered the fish there senseless on our 5 total trips in the past 12 months! Needless to say, I am envious of anyone who lives closer to the Cape than me! ;-)

great site, i tell everyone about even if they don't fish. Some of the threads are quite helpful/humbling, most are very funny, love the sarcasm.

BrianZ, since you wrote this, you've become quite a "local" and a good contributor...thanks!
