Tim , 1st I want to say you've all done a heck of a job here. Your love of the Sport and keen knowledge really shines through here and a reflection of you as a person. With the help of some of your good buds , Mike P, Mike and Bill from R.I. ,(to name a few) yours be amongst the Best of the fishing sites on the net.
I moved here from CT but there's Stripers here too. In the lake where I live they caught a record 53 lber. Yea I know no salt in the top of the waders on a wind blown night or sand where it ain't supposed to be, but fishing is fishing. Hope to hook a few and give a report back someday. Good -Luck and continued success with the site and fishing..........CJ
P.S People and country here are beautiful.

Tim's feelings are mine exactly. Recreational fishermen bitching about the commercial fishermen and then using artificial "boat limits" to poach fish, is an example of the pot calling the kettle black. Let's call a Rose a Rose and greed, greed!! Catch and release will help ensure that our grandchildren will be able to enjoy fishing just as we do. Keep in moderation. Charlie

saw this site for the first time this am--it looks great! I've been on another site for a long time. I'm tired of all the so called "PROS" CUTTING INTO EACH OTHER for the slightest mistake, just to try and prove they are such great striper fishermen! I need a rest from that!! all bickering and very few fishing reports! I hope that doesn't happen here!

Great Site!!! I am far from new to the surf but this typeing and computer business is backbreaking. "The Ditch and the Cape" are very familar territory to me. Presently most of my casting is from Plum Island Newburyport Ma. The information imparted here is super. If you don't mind I'll be lurking around for awhile. Right term I hope? Lurking only because it took me about 15 minutes to type this. Happy Holidays!!!!!!!

Just stumbled across your site. NICE! Lots of good info. from the little bit I have read so far. Most of my fishing for rocks has been from the Delaware (Indian River Inlet, Bethany Beach), Jersey shores(LBI). In the last few years I have been fortunate enough to get into some nice stripers in the Chesapeake. I look forward to reading the reports/posts.

Dear Tim, After reading your web-page, hope that's what it's called, I'm trying to get "savvy" in this computer language, I was so bursting with pride I just had to let you know it! Especially those two lines in the "Lamiglas and 'tis the season" page, dated Dec. 13 th. Those two lines, "boy, do they have excellent taste!" and "hey, we're both fisherman, ya know!" , child, you write just like me! I'm so excited to hear your heart, I mean, I'm so excited to READ your heart. That's my boy! A passion for fishing! I am so happy for you, remembering that line I've heard a million times, "find something you love and find a way to make a living out of it...", you've done that! How blessed you are! Your style of writing, with the ease of your passion for fishing flowing so enthusiastically out of your heart tickles me to say the least! All those days and nights I dropped you off at Shark River and picked you up at dark and smelled your fishy clothes trying to shove all that bloody, fish scale encrusted mess into the poor washing machine has really paid off! I am so proud of you, your web page, your determination to succeed at what you love and your ability to write! In the heart of each parent is a little place that likes to think that their child is "just like them." Your writing fills that place for me, in you, between you and me, I love being your MOM, you're so wonderful to me and for anyone else who might read this, "I have the best son!" Ok, I can see again...I've wiped all the tears off the bottom of my glasses! Tim, Dad found your web page today and said, "honey, come read this." (He appreciates your writing ability also!, and it's like visiting with you whenever we want to!) Dad couldn't be prouder of you either! Sometimes we read your web page together and just sit there and cry happy tears! Well, enough for now...you KNOW I could keep writing! This would turn into a book of "How proud we are of Tim Surgent!" Dad just told me "sign off, already, hon", OK, I will! Can you tell we LOVE you?
Mom and Dad
Holy smokes Ma, that's the longest entry in the whole Guest Book! ;^) I guess if there's one person in the world you should allow to put such long (and most enjoyable) messages, it should be your mom! Love you too and give dad a squeeze for me!

Justin, clear your slate when the Spring Fling 2001 details start getting worked out and we'll show you around some of the finer areas for spring surf fishing in this area! Then, when we get down your way, you can show us some stuff! ;-)

Tim S., I've been logging on to SOL since sept. 2000 after meeting member ed J on the beach at Ship bottom n.j. My cousin Pat and I were with the wives and kids and about 100lbs of fishing gear as well as about $30.00 worth of stinky dead bait. yea, I know real rookie h h-heads. I noticed Ed J doing his thing and walked over to ask him the basic rookie, out of towner type questions. Ed could not have been nicer or helpful, but the bottom line was that if I really wanted to get up to speed---check out SOL. He was right, and I've become hopelessly hooked on your site as well as looking for unicorns; only one short to date caught on the Barnegat jetty, buy great fun. Anyway I really enjoy your up dates and commentary, fishing and social. today's commentary on pearl harbor was right on the mark. I'll stay in touch, thank you Joe Gallagher
Thanks Joe, it's always a pleasure to hear from new guys...even if it was EdJ who told ya about us! ;^) We won't hold that against you! <grin><wink> Looking forward to hearing more from you in the future, take care!

Nice Website - a guy I met plugging yesterday in Mantoloking told me about it. I've been checking Betty & Nick's for several years but didn't know about yours. Maybe it will help me catch a few fish ... I have caught *very* few this year, my fourth working the surf with plugs and flies. When it comes to surf fishing, I think I will *always* be paying my dues.
Jim, in the surf, even those with 20-30 years still pay there dues on a daily basis! But, come check out SurfTalk and peruse the hundreds of other features on this site, we will help ya catch more fish!

I just discovered your site this evening. After a hard -fished but dismally unproductive weekend, it was heartening to read your report of good fish yet to come. I'm not ready to hand up the gear yet- not even close. Primarily, I choose to fly fish whenever practical (and often when not) so I was interested to browse your "shoportunities". I'm sure I'll be returning to order one day soon. Previously, I've been monitoring several other sites, but now that I've discovered you this will be my "go to" site henceforth. Well done!

Enjoyed the visit, which was suggested by a fishing pal, Striperkiller. Finished gabbing w/him a few moments ago - just as he was on his way to the inlet to meet a group from your board. Sure wish I could have joined him (and your pals) this evening. I'm certain that if the wind will cooperate, thus allow you to get to the end of the north jetty, you'll be in fish. Hope you folks enjoy our fishing hole.

Yes I.R.I can hold fish like blues, trout, drum, croakers, shark, and yes there are an occassional striper that shows up... A far cry from the early 1990s' when a large striper was a 30 incher...... DON'T keep them all- because the resource will be depleted... THE HOLY COW ><)))'>
Thanks Dan...good advice...let 'em go...let 'em grow...let 'em breed! That's the only way things will really start to bounce back. Also, even more importantly, get the gill netters outta the areas where the stripers migrate, they are killing millions of pounds of stripers each year that don't even get counted as bycatch! That's the real kicker!

I've been hitting Second Ave in Bradley Beach, doing ok. Any other local spots worth throwing a plug at
Rob, The nice thing about that area you are fishing is that every square inch of water should have plugs thrown into it! Don't stop on just one jetty...fish the ones north and south of it...and fish the beaches in between! The stripers will move all over the place...staying on one rock really limits your sucess!

HI Tim: Congratulations on your website. I know it took a lot of work on your part and the cooperation of a lot of friends. I'm glad to see all the critical surf gear, especially the terminal tackle that I use on my annual forays to the striper coast. Anyway thanks for organizing the website. I'll start ordering some of the new (to Me) Hab's plugs before my next rip. Good Luck, Sean McGowan
Sean, thank you very much for your positive thoughts! Yes, it requires a lot of things to come together for a site to grow like this one has...the most important part is the people that contribute, visit, and shop here...in that order!
