- Jig Trailers - 
Perhaps the most important part of your jig - the trailer - the addition to the hook that extends beyond the hair. Often made of pork, and in recent years, plastic or rubber. The color of the trailers is often determined by the color of the jig - for white Smilin' Bill jigs, natural or lighter colors - red, white, yellow in pork and alewife, smoke pepper, funky fish, Arkansas shiner, albino, etc. For black Smilin' Bills, red, black or yellow pork...or rubber in any of the darker shades from black to blue to red shad. Sometimes it's best to try and make your jig roughly the same length as the predominant bait...and sometimes just design them with the "bigger is better" reference in mind ;-)
