Rigged Eels, Ultimus eel rigging supplies, and instructions

Now you can get Ultimus 8" or 10 1/2" rubber eels, in three different colors, rigged on Ultimus pure tin eels squids! We have never offered the smaller 8" Ultimus eels...until now :)

What are eels squids? Let me explain, eel squids are generally tin or tin alloy swimmer plates that carry a big single hook, usually 6/0 or 7/0, that are used to rig eels, both rubber and real. Tin is used for this purpose as it's lighter than lead, has a very realistic glow to it that the fish seem to crave, and is flexible enough to change the shape, and thus, the action of the squid. Tin squids usually carry just feathers or a plastic bait such as a Fin-S-Fish or small rubber eel. They are deadly sand eel imitations. They are also good small bunker or mullet imitators. They cast well and can be fished at any depth. OK, eel squids for rigging eels, tin squids for feathers and plastics. Hope this helps.

Ultimus 8" and 10 1/2" Eels
Available in three colors, black/smoke, black/pearl and olive/pearl (natural). We've done well with all three colors in the past, but weakfish tend to prefer the natural one and bass tend to prefer the black/smoke or black/pearl. Each color will be available rigged on one of four squids that we'll call shallow, medium, deep and x-deep. Most any squid can be bent to swim deeper or shallow, faster or slower, but these will come pre bent the way we've found them to perform best.
Each one is rigged with doubled 50# black Dacron, a appropriate sized tinned 3X short, extra strong Mustad tail hook, and all knots are glued with Zap-A-Gap. The knots will never come untied and they won't ever fail. These are rigged in a manner where there is only one knot, and it's tied twice, doubled twice, tightened, and soaked with Zap-A-Gap...overkill to be sure!

The Eel Squids -
- Ultimus 100% Pure Tin Eel Squids are back!
These are the real deal, 100% pure tin, molded with very strong, forged Mustad jig hooks! The pure tin squids are much more flexible than even jewelry grade squids (95% tin) - which is incredibly important when "tuning" your rigged eels to swim perfectly. They are available here in the following sizes - Shallow, Medium, Deep, X-Deep and a monstrous Super-Deep squid. In general, the shallow squid is best for tiny eels or the 8" Felmlee rubber eels. The medium squid will work very well with a small, thin real eel, an 8" Felmlee rubber eel or a 10 1/2" Ultimus rubber eel. The deep squid is probably the most used - it will swim an 8" Felmlee, the 10 1/2" Ultimus and anything up to a normal sized and thin rigging eel. The x-deep squid is the most versatile in regards to what you can rig on it. It will swim the 8" Felmlee, the 10 1/2" Ultimus and everything up to a normal sized rigging eel...including those with a little more bulk on them. The super-deep squid is pretty new to me - but from what I've seen, it'll swim just about anything you can strap to it ;-)

Ultimus 10 1/2" Rubber Eels - Available now in black/smoke, black/pearl, and natural (olive/pearl)!
The finest rubber eels on the planet - for years we have been unable to stock them and now they are back! Much more supple than the Felmlee rubber eels, they are the most naturally swimming rubber eels we've ever used. Best rigged on Ultimus medium, deep or X-deep eel squids. Available in packs of 3 - (each eel weighs 18 grams unrigged)

NEW - Ultimus 15" Rubber Eels - Available now in black/smoke, black/pearl, and natural (olive/pearl)!
These are, without question, the most realistic, most lifelike, rubber eels on the market. They are 15" long and are proportionally correct in every way to a real eel of approximately the same size - every detail from the eyes to the fins to the way they flex and bend.
They will be sold in packs of 1 unrigged eel, they are huge - they weigh 2 1/2oz each..unrigged!

- Felmlee 8" Rubber Eels - Available now in chartreuse/pearl and natural (olive/pearl)!
These eels are tougher and stiffer than the Ultimus eels, but thinner as well. We've done extremely well with this eel when the sandeels are present. Best fished either on a ball jig or rigged on a medium or deep head. For some reason, when the fish are on these, they prefer them fished a little faster than the bigger eels.

The Hooks
- Gamakatsu heavy duty live bait hooks - 4/0, 5/0, or 6/0 in black.
- Mustad 4/0, 5/0, 6/0, 7/0 or 8/0 3X short, extra strong (recommend 4/0 or 5/0 for Felmlee 8" eels -- and 5/0 or 6/0 for Ultimus 10 1/2" eels -- 7/0 and 8/0 for 15" Ultimus eels or 9" Sluggos)

The Dacron
- Cortland's best Dacron! The 50# (best for rubber eels) and the 80# (best for real eels), 30 feet in a coil, enough to rig about 15 eels, or a dozen really long ones - we now have 80# BLACK Dacron in stock!

Zap-A-Gap
- You'll need this stuff, regardless of whether you are rigging real ones or rubber ones. If you are rigging rubber ones, get an extra one for your jetty bag or vest, it's wonderful for repairing torn rubber eels or securing the rubber eel to the hook once they get a little "loose".
