Jigs are very possibly the single most effective lure ever created for striped bass fishing. They can be fished in any portion of the water column. They can be used to imitate any bait. They cast well. Fish hooked with a jig rarely come off. There just aren't too many bad things you can say about jigs! We personally oversee the entire jig making process for all the jigs that are offered for sale here - the molds, hook sizes and manufacturer, paint color and brand, bucktails, etc. One change made in almost every jig we offer for stripers is the hook. Most jigs come with hooks that are sadly not up to task of landing a big, angry striper in moving water...the very place where jigs are perfect! If you are price shopping for jigs, please keep in mind these jigs have "evolved" from many thousands of man hours fishing them, they are proven, they are perfect for the task, and we stand behind them 100%. If you feel they are somehow inferior to what you expected, send them back, we will be refund your money, no questions asked. All the molds used are customized in one fashion or another, it's just the way things need to be done when it comes to striper fishing! |

Without a doubt, one of the most popular and effective of the jig family and my personal favorite. The contrasting colors of white, black, and very visible blood red in the mouth add to the effectiveness of these big fish killers. The open mouth style jig catches the water in a way unique to this style jig, causing the jig to react more than most other styles. Along with many others, we have found these jigs to be absolutely essential for striper fishing in any kind of current, depth, or in any situation where bunkers are the main forage, including the daytime blitzes! Jigs will take bigger fish more often than most surface plugs and the fish are far more likely to remain hooked and less likely to be nasty bluefish! And usually there is less damage done to fish intended for release with a single hook rather than landing them with a face full of trebles. Lastly, there is far less chance that you will become hooked, as the jig itself makes a nice handle to pick the fish up and remove the hook. Much as we like to encourage the proper, gentle, and quick release of all fish not destined for the broiler, worry about your safety first...then the fish! There isn't too much you can say bad about jigs! |

Why are our jigs better than the others you can buy? They are painted with Pro-Tec powder paints and baked in the oven to make sure the paint is as chip resistant as you can get. The thread wraps are saturated with Zap-A-Gap, not some topical glue. This glue penetrates the threads to make sure all the hair is permanently attached...no clumps will pull out of these jigs. The hooks are the strongest available, mainly Mustad 34185 and 34184 in sizes 5/0, 6/0, 7/0, and the mighty 8/0. All the hooks are forged! These are far stronger than the thin wire, long shanked hooks that are used in most of the jigs you can find anywhere. Why, you might ask, is this important? Non-forged, thin wire hooks are cheaper and far weaker...we don't trust trophy stripers on jigs made with weak hooks, you shouldn't have to either! We've had our hearts broken in the past with bent hooks - even forged hooks sometimes. We learned from the local old salts that the only way to be sure of your tackle was to make it yourself or know who makes it. Ours jigs are presently being made by Tri-Plex Tackle. The very same jigs sold here are the ones we use, exactly, right out of the same molds with the same hooks...poured and tied right alongside the ones we use...we stand behind them, every single one, they are the toughest, yet prettiest jigs that you will find anywhere. All the molds we use are customized to take hooks far thicker and stronger than they were intended to...just the way we like them! With the past few seasons showing us how important the "peanut" bunker has become, we've seen store bought jigs refused many, many times while ours were devoured! Why? Mainly because we tie them correctly, not long, dense mops of hair, but just the right amount spread around the hook...and we keep them proportionally long. If extra length is desired, we "adjust" it by adding trailers like Fin-S-Fish or pork rind. They aren't tied this way commercially anywhere else that we're aware of. Most guys that know bucktails will tell you, the commercial ones are too long and too dense...ours are perfect when you get them and we take great pride in that! |
| Ball Jigs - These plain heads are for rubber or plastic trailers or baits, whatever you want to call them, like Fin-S-Fish, shad, twisters, and about a thousand other plastic baits. There are different style jig heads for different applications. I use primarily three, not counting the Smilin' Bills above. I use a plain round jig head mainly with a Fin-S-Fish, either 5 3/4" or 7"...I've used sizes other than these, but these are the work horses. There is strength in simplicity, as a plain round jig and Fin-S has taken so many heavy bass for my friends and I that it's almost sickening...it's just plain effective. I also will use what's known as a "Shad Jig", it's a triangular head that matches up well with a rubber shad...once you nip the shads head down to a point where they meet evenly. This shad jigs have had their hook sizes up quite a bit, as the ones in the stores and the ones the mold was intended to make are far too small to offer a good hook bite once the hook is inside the shad. At first, I upped the hook size from a sissy long shank 6/0 Eagle Claw to a stout short shanked 7/0 Mustad. This shad jig head is also excellent when coupled with a 5 3/4" or 7" Fin-S...again, you nip the head a bit so it matches evenly, and you have a deadly bait. On to the jigs.... | ![]() |

| Shad Jigs - These triangle shaped jigs will fit flush with a shad or Fin-S-Fish head when the front is nipped off either plastic bait. I think this is important, I do it with all my plastics on all my jigs, I nip off the front and put a little Zap-A-Gap on the jig and push the plastic up to a point where it is perfectly flush and hold it there until the glue grabs...a nice flush head, very realistic! Also, the shad jigs I use have painted eyes on them, yellow with a black pupil...and since I promised I'd make available the exact things I use, I'll put them on here as well. The eyes are prominent and important in my opinion...but everyone has their own preferences! Also, I prefer a 6/0 Mustad hook for Fin-S-Fish and a 7/0 Mustad for shad bodies. If I'm throwing a lighter spinning rod, I'll use a 5/0 Mustad hook so I can bury it easier :-) Now, the jigs.... | |
